Dong Xiwen (1914-1973) is a renowned artist using oil media. He ever studied at Suzhou Fine Art School, Hangzhou Fine Art School and Shanghai Fine Arts School. After 1946, he served as teacher at National Beiping Art School, and in the following years he was professor, head of Oil Media Studio and teacher of Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Fan Zeng (1938-) is a master of the "pure-line-drawing" technique. He considers that the "sounds of nature" can only be caught by a spontaneous reaction to what is observed, not a redrawing or a contour outline. He also specializes in "splashed ink" and figure painting. Fan Zeng followed the great painters of the Song dynasty in using simple and vigorous strokes of the brush and dynamic delineation of form.
